Parakkat family's contributionsEducationPresent Sealy Memorial High School, Tattamangalam, in those days was a private school managed by our family. Later on the school was donated to the Government of Kerala by the founder late Sri Parakkat Vasu Menon, who was a philanthropist. The school had helped many children of Tattamangalam and nearby village to have their education up to S.S.L.C. Are & CultureThe Kanyar Kali of Tattamangalam is well known through out Palakkad District and its popularity gauged from the huge crowd which uses to witness the “arungu” performed on these days in front of Kurumba Bhagavathy Temple in a specialy buit ‘Pandal’ (twelve poles pandal) The people of the desam take the karanavar of Parakkat Tharavad from the nallukettu in procession accompanied by the chenda vadhyam to the kanyar kali pandal as a mark of respect. The karanavar used to lit the lamb heralding the commencement of Kanyarkali arngu. The arangu was performed under the guidance of one kaliyachan, endowed with abilities for singing the kali songs invoking the goddess. The first kaliyachan was late Sri.Parakkat Sekhara Menon. Subsequently there were few other senior members of the family as kaliyachan who made a mark for themselves in the arena. Central-State Government servicesIt is our proud to mention that Parakkat family produced illustrious sons to occupy high official positions as I.C.S officers and High Court Judges. They were late Sri.P.Achutha Menon, ICS (Ex-Ambassador to West Germany) and late Sri Parakkat Madhava Menon ICS (Secretary for labour, Government of India) and permanent representative in ILO (International Labour Organisation). Late P.Devakinanda Menon was High Court judge,Enquiry Commissioner and special Judge, Government of Kerala; and Sri.P Chandra Sekhara Menon, ICS –who also occupied very high position.
The divan of cochin was no less a person than late Sri.Damodara Menon, a man of unimpeachable integrity. There were eminent personalities from our families who served as chairman and counsellors during their tenure of office and they contributed significantly for the development of Chittur-Tattamangalam Municipality on various fronts. They earned laurels for themselves also.
Our family produced doctors, engineers, advocates and other professionals and businessmen who have been occupying high position in their respective fields both in India and abroad. As it stands now there are above thousand members in Parakkat Family and that itself constitutes our strength. The present generation is hell bent on progressing in all fields by acquiring higher education. There is a remarkable sense of oneness in the families due to the performance of periodical Poojas at Kamakshi Amma Sannidhi and the family looks forward to prosperous days in the future through frequent satsangs planned by Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amma Trust.
